This standard provides requirements for the performance of inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure that packaging continues to meet original design specifications and is properly assembled for shipment. The standard applies to: (1) fuel shipping containers which are within the scope of AEC Manual Chapter 0529, or Code of Federal Regulations, Title 10, Part 71; (2) inserts or other packaging components required in accordance with the safety analysis report-packages, the certificate of compliance, and any amendments thereto; (3) tiedown devices to and including point of attachment to the transport vehicle; and (4) ancillary features (sun shields, crash frames, impact absorbers, lifting yokes) required by the conditions of shipment or required for safe handling of the packaging.
