Influence of dynamic screening on photon absorption in Coulomb collisions in a degenerate plasma in a quantizing magnetic field
The dissipative part of the high-frequency conductivity, which describes the absorption of electromagnetic waves in electron-ion collisions in a degenerate plasma in a quantizing magnetic field h..omega../sub B/>-/sub F/ (..omega../sub B/ is the cyclotron frequency and -/sub F/ is the Fermi energy) is obtained. Consistent account is taken of the screening of the Coulomb interaction of the electron and ion. The dependence of the longitudinal effective collision frequency ..nu../sub parallel/, in terms of which the absorption coefficient of electromagnetic waves polarized along an external magnetic field B is expressed, on the photon frequency ..omega..<..omega../sub B/ and on the ratio h..cap omega../sub p//-/sub F/ is investigated (..cap omega../sub p/ is the plasma frequency). The absorption coefficient of the ordinary wave propagating in a direction transverse to B is calculated. It is shown that the peak in the frequency dependence of the absorption coefficient, which takes place in samples with small effective carrier mass at h..omega..=-/sub F/-h..omega../sub B//2 is perfectly observable at h..cap omega../sub p/< or approx. =-/sub F/-h..cap omega../sub B//2. The conditions under which this absorption peak can be observed in n-InSb are discussed.
