Model for economic comparison of natural gas, oil, and coal injection in the blast furnace. Final topical report, July 1990-August 1992

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6897346
The study evaluates and compares the relative economic benefits of injecting natural gas, oil, or coal into a blast furnace. The use of a supplemental fuel in the blast furnace results in two major operating benefits: (1) coke requirements are decreased, and (2) furnace productivity is increased. Of the three supplemental fuels examined, natural gas provides the greatest economic benefits, in addition to providing the highest degree of potential productivity gain, flexibility of injection rate, and the least impact on furnace operability.
