Inhibition of deposition of hydrocarbonaceous solids from oil

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6896342

This is a method of lessening the adhesion to equipment of hydrocarbonaceous deposits from oil such as paraffin. The surfaces in contact with oil are flushed with an alkaline agent to render (them) water wettable, and thereafter the treated surfaces are contacted with a small but effective amount of an aqueous solution of a polymer of homopolymers of N-vinyl-alkyl-2-oxazolidinones and alkali salts of such homopolymers or copolymers of N- vinyl-alkyl-2-oxazolidinone and a monomer of maleic anhydride, sodium styrene sulfonate, sodium vinyl toluene sulfonate, and an alkyl acrylic acid. Copolymers of vinyl pyrrolidone and a monomer of maleic anhydride and vinyl acetate can also be used as well as copolymers of ethylene and maleic acid and alkali amide salts of copolymers of ethylene and maleic anhydride.
