Microscopic calculation of the imaginary optical potential for /sup 208/Pb(p,p) at 14 MeV

A microscopic calculation of the second-order imaginary optical potential is made for /sup 208/Pb(p,p) at 14 MeV incident energy using random phase approximation transition densities for intermediate excited states. The sensitivity of the surface absorption on details of the nuclear structure wave functions is discussed.
