Method o secondary recovery

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6895880
This is a method of secondary oil recovery in which a viscous oil-in-water emulsion is used to displace the oil. The method consists of injecting as a leading edge of a flood an emulsion of oil-in-water within the reservoir through an input well. The emulsion is driven through the reservoir to displace oil from at least a portion of it. The displaced oil is recovered through an output well or wells spaced from the input well or wells. The viscosity of the oil-in-water emulsion should not exceed about 1,000 cp and should be such that the mobility ratio of the emulsion and the reservoir approaches a value of one. The volume of emulsion should be at least about 25% of the pore volume of the reservoir contacted by the emulsion, although about 10% may be sufficient in some reservoirs. Floodwater may be injected as a driving medium provided that it does not break through into the bank of emulsion. (4 claims)
