Plutonium finishing plant remediation project: Exhaust manifold

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6893039
The Plutonium Finishing Plant Remediation Project was initiated in 1988 to formalize, dedicate, and separately fund ongoing maintenance and safety programs for remedial action on ductwork and service piping at the Plutonium Finishing Plant (PFP). Specific near-term remedial actions include removal or replacement of selected ventilation ductwork and process vacuum piping with associated plutonium recovery operations. Other activities include enhanced monitoring of selected ventilation ductwork, process vacuum piping, filter rooms and characterization of plutonium residues on interior surfaces of the exhaust stack manifold downstream of final high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filtration. This report serves as an introduction to the Building 234-5Z portion of the Remediation Project and provides a current status on characterization activities pertaining to plutonium residues on interior surfaces of the exhaust stack manifold. 1 tab.
