Engine spark control apparatus

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6888486
This patent describes a system for controlling the formation of a spark in a combustion engine comprising a first source of electrical current of a given polarity that is essentially constant, a second source of electrical current of opposite polarity which varies with a preselected engine operating condition, and first and second sources of current being connected to a common summation point, that summation point being connected to a control electrode of an amplifying device, the amplifying device having an output terminal and a common input-output terminal, the common input-output terminal connected to circuit ground, the output terminal of the amplifying device being connected to an input terminal of a switching device, the switching device having an output terminal and a common input-output terminal connected to circuit ground, the input terminal of the switching device also connected to a source of electrical bias current sufficient to turn on the switching device, and switching device having its output terminal connected to control the formation of the spark in the combustion engine in response to the selective diversion of the source of bias current by the amplifying device in response to the voltage at the summation point.
