Solar energy: a brief assessment

This report discusses active and passive heating and cooling systems, process heat, solar ponds, and photovoltaic power systems. Explanations of these technologies, their applications, technical and economic performance, future developments, and legal and environmental issues are presented. Maps showing the general locations of good insolation resources (i.e., available solar power) are also presented in Appendix A. This information can be used to identify areas with promising solar applications potential, and to key into more detailed local resource data within Western's 15-state power marketing area.
