Self-control type glow plug
A self-control type glow plug is described for use in an engine, the plug comprising: means including a shell member for mounting the glow plug to the engine; heat generating means comprised of a sintered ceramic body and a heating wire embedded therein, the heating wire having terminal ends located outside the ceramic body for establishing electrical connections and the ceramic body being connected to extend from the shell member. The heating wire consists essentially of a tungsten alloy having a temperature resistance coefficient at 1000/sup 0/C. no greater than four times that at room temperature; and a current control resistor electrically connected in series with the heating wire of the heat generating means for controlling the temperature of the heat generating means. The resistor comprises a wire having a positive temperature resistance coefficient at 1000/sup 0/C. no less than five times that at room temperature, wherein the heating wire consists essentially of tungsten alloyed with 2 to 50 wt % rhenium.
