The authors study the physical properties of In/sub 4/Se/sub 3/ and their anistropy. The propagation veleocity of longitudinal v /SUB zeta/ and transverse v /SUB t/ elastic waves along the (100), (010), (001), (110), (011), and (101) directions of an In/sub 4/Se/sub 3/ single crystal were measured by ultrasonic methods: impulsive-phase and radio-pulse with discrete delay. The measurements were performed on samples cut out of the same single crystal, whose linear dimensions in the direction of propagation of the wave were 0.7-6 mm. The value of the components of the tensors of elastic compliance (in 1/GPa), Poisson Coefficients, Young's Moduli (in GPa), and linear compressibility (in 1/GPa) in different crystallographic directions are shown at 300 K.
