Gas appliance technology center: 1986 annual report (activity at Institute of Gas Technology). Report for January-December 1986

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6881479
This report contains the results of two investigations conducted as part of the Gas Appliance Technology Center for 1986. Specifically, Development of a Natural-Gas-Fired Low-NOx Burner, and a Techno-economic Feasibility Study of Task-Specific Water Heating for Residential Applications. In the first task, a two-stage, swirl-type, natural-gas fired combustor with low NOx emissions potential, was designed, fabricated, and tested. In the second task a techno-economic study of providing hot water for a bath/shower in a domestic application, using an instantaneous or task-specific water heater, was performed. The study included a survey of currently available instantaneous water heaters, determination of life-cycle costs for domestic applications, potential for unconventional venting through plumbing stacks and a review of national, state, and local plumbing codes for possible restrictions on venting.
