A status report of the federal geothermal leasing program is presented by Karl F. Duscher, US Bureau of Land Management to the Interagency Geothermal Coordinating Council on April 16, 1982. The federal geothermal leasing program is now based on economic recovery, deregulation, true multiple use of public lands, and reliance on the enterprise system. Bureau-wide, over 1000 noncompetitive leases will likely be issued this year, the majority in higher potential areas which industry has been waiting to explore ever since leasing began. The backlog in lease-applications will be eliminated by the streamlined efforts of the interagency and intra-agency efforts. The streamlining efforts are discussed.
