Spin-polarization effects in the photoluminescence of polythiophene
Photoluminescence (PL), optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR), and nonresonant magnetic field effects (NFE) have been studied in polythiophene (PT) and poly(3-alkylthiophene) (P3AT). The PT samples studied were chemically coupled PT (c-PT) and electrochemically coupled PT (e-PT); the P3AT samples were poly(3-hexylthiophene) (HPT) and a copolymer of 3-benzylthiophene and 3-hexylthiophene (BHPT). The PL spectra are described in detail. The integrated PL intensity was found to be nearby temperatures independent. ODMR was measured at X-band from 5 to 300K. The strength and temperature dependence of the ODMR signal was studied. Magnetic fields from 0 to 700 G cause broad enhancing and quenching changes in the PL intensity.
