An approach to LMR design

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6876119
Westinghouse has developed a concept for commercial liquid metal reactors (LMRs) that includes four plant sizes, each constructed from a common set of prepackaged systems. This concept incorporates inherent safety capability and the Westinghouse Ultra Long Life Core (ULLC) fuel cycle. A uranium-oxide fueled startup option is made possible by the ULLC neutronics. By combining the inherent safety capability with prepackaged plant system arrangements and the ULLC fuel cycle, the Westinghouse LMR plants will be licensable, economically viable, and deployable in the near term using uranium-oxide cores in a once through fuel cycle.
