The Simultaneous Calorimetric Assay System measures the thermal power of a sample by calorimetry and at the same time the relative concentrations of the heat producing nuclei in the sample. This transportable instrument, which was developed at MRC-Mound, provides a nondestructive determination of the plutonium content of the sample. This paper describes the instrument and its performance in tests at Mound and in a field test. 7 references, 3 figures, 1 table.
