Method of coal pretreatment

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6873382
IGT developed a simple and efficient method of pretreating caking coal before gasification without the need for external heat by contacting the carbonaceous material with hot gas reaction products from a fluidized gasification reaction. The treated particles are then passed directly to the gasification reactor for conversion into gaseous products. Generally, a contact time of 2-30 sec is sufficient to devolatilize the coal and destroy its caking properties.
