Disposal of sewage sludge and municipal refuse by the Occidental (Research Corp. ) Flash Pyrolysis Process

The process was studied in a pilot plant with typical solids feed rates of 2 kg/hr and typical carrier gas flow rates of 6.6 std cu m/hr. The two feed materials used in these experiments were finely shredded municipal refuse and sewage sludge which was air-dried and then ground in the same mill. Pyrolyses were carried out at 755, 922, 1033, and 1144/sup 0/K. Data are presented on the composition of each feed and the composition, heating value and percent yield of the oil and gas obtained from each feed at each temperature.
