Basic mathematical concepts for treating problems in precipitation scavenging are presented along with improved terminology suggestions. Emphasis of gas and aerosol removal is on surface deposition. One section discusses the suspected properties of organics and metals and relation of those properties to wet removal by precipitation. Some discussion is also included for wet removal of SO/sub 2/ from the atmosphere. (PSB)
