Title: Assessment of trace contaminants from a model indirect liquefaction facility. Volume II. Stream characterization of Lurgi/Fischer-Tropsch coal liquefaction

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6868865

Preliminary estimates of the types and quantities of potential pollutants that may be released into the environment by commercial scale indirect liquefaction facilities are presented. This report documents the methodology, assumptions, caveats, results, and references used in developing these preliminary estimates. Tasks included: identification of stream components of interest; estimation of flow rates of stream components by stream; and estimation of concentrations of individual trace elements and organic compounds in each stream. Wash process liquor is the key liquid stream of interest. Gaseous streams of interest are utility stack gases and lockhopper vent gas emissions. Solid streams of interest are utility ash, scrubber sludge, gasifier ash, catalysts, leachates from ash, and biological sludges. Trace elements of interest are As, Be, Cd, F, Hg, Pb, Bo, Mn, Ni, V, Al, Cu, Fe, Se, and Zn. Organic compounds of interest are carboxylic acids, benzene and substituted benzene, phenols, polynuclear aromatics, sulfur heterocyclics, mercaptans, aromatic amines, and polyaromatic hydrocarbons. 116 references, 4 figures, 42 tables.
