Increased energy from North America will require international financing

Journal Article · · Electr. Perspect.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6865113
The electric-utility industries in Canada and the US are capital-intensive, requiring both countries to import capital to help finance their energy requirements at a time when worldwide debt equities are rising. The only financial institutions with enough capital to supply North America's needs will be those with large enough balance sheets to accommodate large projects; with enough technical capacity to understand what they are financing; with short-term liabilities that will attract the necessary savings inflow; with the reputation to intermediate effectively in Euromarkets; and to recycle dollars into the American marketplace. Given these attributes, Canadian banks will play a significant role.
