The crystal structure of. alpha. -SrZn sub 2 (PO sub 4 ) sub 2 : A hurlbutite type

{alpha}-SrZn{sub 2}(PO{sub 4}){sub 2} is monoclinic (space group: P2{sub 1}/c) with a = 8.3232(4) {angstrom}, b = 9.5101(4) {angstrom}, c = 9.0317(4) {angstrom}, {beta} = 92.293(3){degree}, and Z = 4. The crystal structure is refined from 3426 reflections to R = 0.026 (R{sub w} = 0.034). Zinc and phosphorus tetrahedra build up a three-dimensional network isotypic to the hurlbutite-type CaBe{sub 2}(PO{sub 4}){sub 2}.
