Xe NMR spectroscopy was used to characterize several aluminophosphate and silicoaluminophosphate molecular sieves. The chemical shift of Xe-129 becomes larger as the sizes of the cavities and channels become smaller. For a particular structure type, the /sup 129/Xe chemical shift increases in magnitude in the order aluminophosphate, silicoaluminophosphate, aluminosilicate, respectively. Variable-temperature experiments were performed on the silicoaluminophosphate with faujasite structure. Only one resonance is observed at temperatures of 298-212K consistent with a homogeneous material.
