Nuclear safety criteria for the design of stationary boiling water reactor plants

Book ·
OSTI ID:6861059
This standard is designed to establish functional design requirements of safety-related structures, systems and components, so as to insure that boiling water reactor plants will be designed and constructed so that they can be operated without undue risk to the health and safety of the public. Specific design criteria covered are: reactor assembly internals; reactivity control; protection system; reactor coolant system; auxiliary core cooling; reactor coolant system auxiliaries; service water; emergency core cooling; primary reactor containment; secondary containment; containment cooling; emergency equipment area cooling; standby gas treatment system; fuel storage and handling; electrical power; fire protection systems; control complex; radioactive waste processing; other structures; power conversion system; and multiunit stations. A detailed equipment classification is appended to clarify the criteria specified. General design considerations to be considered include plant process conditions, natural hazards and environmental conditions, external man-made hazards, conditions of design, safety classification, and code requirements.
