Environmental auditing and North Carolina: regulators encourage use of a catalyst for environmental protection
The North Carolina Department of Natural Resources and Community Development is encouraging individuals and companies in the State who are subject to environmental standards to try environmental auditing. The department believes that auditing programs can help those people meet their environmental responsibilities in a more effective and efficient way. In the department's view, an environmental auditing program typically includes: a clear and convincing commitment by a firm's top management that management supports and desires compliance with environmental standards; the use of qualified, objective auditors; the development and use of specific written criteria that performance is measured against; a formalized management reporting system; and a corrective action program.
