Improving water management in Mexico's irrigated agriculture

This study traces Mexican agriculture from postrevolutionary land reform to recent national agricultural programs. Current water management strategies and irrigated farming practices are analyzed in detail. The authors explore various policy options that could alleviate Mexico's food crunch-farmland expansion; maintenance of existing irrigation systems; increased water conservation; agricultural research to develop high-yield, water-saving crops; and extension programs to bring current technology to the farm.
