Partial-wave analysis of diffractive production of the 3. pi. system and the Deck model

The diffractive production of the 3..pi.. system is studied using the Deck model including 3..pi.. resonances. A satisfactory description of the general distributions in the coherent reaction ..pi../sup -/A..--> pi../sup -/..pi../sup +/..pi../sup -/A is obtained. In order to describe the results of the partial-wave analysis, the 3..pi.. resonances A/sub 1/(1/sup +/) and ..pi..', ..pi..''(0/sup -/) were introduced into the model. A satisfactory description is obtained for the intensities of the dominant 1/sup +/S and 0/sup -/S waves and phase shifts in the reaction ..pi../sup -/A..--> pi../sup -/..pi../sup +/..pi../sup -/A (on the Si nucleus) and the relative phases in the analogous reaction on a nucleon target. In our results the purely Deck contribution dominates on the average in the intensities of the dominant 1/sup +/S and 0/sup -/S waves.
