Active solar systems in areas with freezing temperatures usually use aqueous antifreeze solutions as heat transfer fluids. The physical and chemical properties, as well as the corrosive effects, of these fluids are not thoroughly understood. The properties of ethylene glycol and propylene glycol antifreezes are listed and discussed.
