INPO status and evaluation program. [Monograph]
The Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) has grown from a staff of 36 to 260 and a budget of $11 million to $32 million since 1980. Membership includes all utilities with nuclear plants in operation or under construction. International programs began in 1981. INPO screens and evaluates power plant events, recommends utility action, and conducts in-depth reviews when warranted. A new responsibility is managing the Nuclear Plant Reliability Data System (NPRDS). INPO activities focus on developing training guidelines to meet task requirements. An evaluation of 50 operating stations completed in December 1981 covered plant operations procedures and work control systems. This report covers the procedure for making the evaluations, which include industry strengths in the area of safety and training, and suggestions for improvements in the conduct of operations, personnel management, and personnel. 1 figure.
