The relationship of the absorption of /sup 6/Li and /sup 7/Li hollow cathode lamp emissions are used to determine lithium isotopic composition in the natural abundance range of geologic materials. Absorption was found to have a nonlinear dependence upon total lithium concentration and isotopic composition. A method using nonlinear equations to describe the relationship of the absorption of /sup 6/Li and /sup 7/Li lamp radiation is proposed as a means of calculating isotopic composition that is independent of total lithium concentration. 1 figure, 5 tables.
