The kinetics of the liquid-phase hydrogenation of a heterocyclic amine were studied over 0.5 and 5Vertical Bar3< rhodium/alumina catalysts in 90Vertical Bar3< 2-propanol/10Vertical Bar3< acetic acid as solvent at 160/sup 0/-258/sup 0/F, 50-900 psi, 21.7-144 ml/hr liquid flow rate, 0.46-3.8 cu ft/hr gas flow rate, and 0.01-0.04 reactant concentration. Favorable operating conditions were 220/sup 0/F and 600 psi. The conversion and yield followed a first-order model and was surface-reaction limited below 224/sup 0/F and liquid-phase reactant diffusion limited above. Equations for the conversion and yield are given.
