The gamma transitions which accompany the electron capture decays /sup 203/Bi ..-->.. /sup 203/Pb and /sup 204/Bi ..-->.. /sup 204/Pb were studied by gamma--gamma coincidence spectroscopy with Ge(Li) detectors. The results were used to deduce the decay schemes of /sup 203/Bi and /sup 204/Bi. Spin and parity assignments for some excited levels were made on the basis of transition multipolarities derived from gamma-ray intensities and existing conversion electron data. Significant features of the levels can be interpreted in terms of weak coupling of a neutron orbital to the collective states of /sup 204/Pb for /sup 203/Pb and coupling of pairs of neutron orbitals in the case of /sup 204/Pb. The proposed decay scheme of /sup 204/Bi consists of 54 levels and 136 transitions. The proposed decay scheme of /sup 203/Bi, which consists of 58 levels and 175 transitions, represents a significant improvement over the most recent study. In particular, several important transitions among the low-lying levels were identified.
