Computer die design for ribbed tube extrusion

Dies for coextrusion of nuclear reactor fuel elements with external ribs were designed using a computer program. The fuel elements comprise a uranium--aluminum alloy core and aluminum cladding. The computer-aided die design began with the finished tube dimensions and worked backwards to determine the die dimensions. Three dies were designed using the computer program. The design method gave excellent results.
