Trenchless technology has allowed the rehabilitation of underground piping at the Woodside LNG facility in Australia without disruption of plant operations. Because the trenchless method accomplished the work without excavation or disturbance. Woodside Offshore Petroleum Pty. Ltd. took advantage of the reduction in downtime this technology provided to reduce overall operational, maintenance and capital costs at the facility while also minimizing environmental concerns. Insituform installs a pipe within a pipe without having to dig, and is faster and often less expensive than conventional methods. The rehabilitation project began at the Woodside facility with a thorough closed-circuit television camera inspection of the affected pipelines. Insituform crews used explosion-proof cameras to carefully inspect the interior of the host pipelines. The TV inspection provided an accurate assessment of the damage and allowed crews to plan the cleaning and rehabilitation of the pipelines.
