Efficiency, renewables, natural gas grow fat in lean DOE budget

The Department of Energy Monday unveiled a [open quotes]lean[close quotes] $18.5 billion fiscal 1995 budget proposal that in a broad sense would cut significantly from science and technology and national security programs while pumping more money into energy sources. A deeper look at those energy resource programs, however, shows the clear stamp of the Clinton administration: The buzzword is [open quotes]clean[close quotes] energy sources, as nuclear energy and coal development programs are slated for significant hits, while the budget proposes sharp increases for energy efficiency, renewables and natural gas.
