Closed FCC cyclone process
A process for the fluid catalytic cracking of a hydrocarbon feed in a closed cyclone system comprising the steps of: passing a mixture, as a suspension of the hydrocarbon feed and a catalyst through a riser conversion zone defined by a vertically-disposed elongated tubular conduit having an upstream end and a downstream end; passing an entire amount of the mixture from the riser conversion zone through a first enclosed conduit to a primary cyclone positioned within the reactor vessel; separating a first portion of the catalyst from the mixture in the primary cyclone; passing a first gaseous effluent from the primary cyclone through a second enclosed conduit and discharging the entire amount of the gaseous effluent from the reactor vessel without passing the gaseous effluent into the reactor vessel atmosphere when the gaseous effluent flows at a steady rate of flow; contacting the separated catalyst with stripping gas in a stripping zone, located within the reactor vessel, to remove hydrocarbon from the separated catalyst; passing at least a portion of the stripping gas from the stripping zone into the riser conversion zone, and discharging a portion of the mixture from the first enclosed conduit through a first surge capacity means during a sudden increased mixture flow rate.
