A lead-glass-based electromagnetic Cerenkov calorimeter is described that consists of a hodoscopic shower detector with a cell size of 10 x 10 cm (189 elements) and an active converter with a thickness of 4 radiation lengths (19 elements). For beams of positrons and positive pions with energies of 3 and 5 GeV, the energy resolution of the detector sigma/sub p//E approx. = 0.08 ..sqrt..E (E is measured in gigaelectron volts), the accuracy of reconstruction of the coordinates of gamma quanta and electrons (positrons (..delta../sub x/ approx. = 10 mm, and the discrimination level of hadron signals approx. = 2 x 10/sup -3/.
