Title: Infrared temperature monitoring and control of final solder-joint temperature on flat flex cables

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6840459

This work outlines an infrared monitoring and control strategy to automatically control soldering temperatures regardless of the thermal mass being soldered. The operational theory, equipment, and control circuitry are discussed. The performance of the infrared radiometric microscope as a solder joint temperature controller is determined by measuring the temperature repeatability. This repeatability is compared to the temperature repeatability attained with no infrared temperature feedback and with average temperatures attained by five experienced production operators. The results indicate that superior temperature control can be attained with infrared temperature feedback. 5 refs., 20 figs., 5 tabs.
