Synthesis process for producing alkylate hydrocarbons

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6840362
A process is described for converting oxygenate feedstock comprising methanol, dimethyl ether or mixtures thereof to liquid hydrocarbons comprising the steps of contacting the feedstock with zeolite catalyst in a primary catalyst stage at elevated temperature and moderate pressure to convert feedstock to light hydrocarbons comprising ethene and C/sub 3/ + olefin components; fractionating the light hydrocarbons in a sorption fractionation unit in contact with a liquid C/sub 4/ + isoparaffinic sorbent to selectively sorb C/sub 3/ + olefin; fractionating C/sub 3/ + sorbate to recover C/sub 5/ + gasoline and provide a C/sub 3/-C/sub 4/ olefin rich stream; reacting a portion of the C/sub 4/ + isoparaffin with the C/sub 3/-C/sub 4/ olefin stream in an alkylation reactor in the presence of acid alkylation catalyst to produce C/sub 7/+ paraffinic alkylate; solvent has a molar ratio of methanol to water of from about 0.01 to about 1.0 recycling at least a portion of the unreacted C/sub 4/ + isoparaffin to the sorption fractionation unit as lean sorbent.
