The Hawaii Natural Energy Institute has played an instrumental role in the research and development of renewables resources, many of which are demonstrating their commercial potential. Already, forms of geothermal, wind, solar, and biomass energy have found applications throughout the Hawaiian Islands, an achievement attributable in large part to the pioneering work undertaken by HNEI during the past 15 years. The institute's progress during the past year in reaching these goals is described. 38 figs.
