B/sup 0/B-bar /sup 0/ mixing signal from B/sup 0/ and B/sub s//sup 0/ meson production between the UPSILON(4S) and UPSILON(6S)

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. D; (United States)
Using the quark-pair-creation model, the quark hybrid mixing model, and the unitarized quark model, we compute the expected signal of same-sign dileptons from the effect of B/sub d//sup 0/B-bar /sub d//sup 0/ and B/sub s//sup 0/B-bar /sub s//sup 0/ mixing as a function of the c.m. energy in the UPSILON resonance region. Our models predict B(UPSILON(4S)..-->..B/sup +/B/sup -/)/B(UPSILON(4S)..-->..B/sup 0/B-bar/sup 0/) near unity, for a B/sup 0/-B/sup +- / mass splitting of 4 +- 3.4 MeV, while using phase space alone, as the experimental group does, gives about 1.4 +- 0.2. Combining our model prediction with the recent ARGUS data we renormalize their experimental mixing parameter r/sub d/ from 0.21 +- 0.08 to 0.19 +- 0.08. Using this experimental mixing parameter, our model calculations of B/sup 0//sub d/B-bar/sup 0//sub d/ and B/sup -//sub s/B-bar/sup 0//sub s/ production, and the standard Kobayashi-Maskawa mixing theory with three families, we find that the B/sup 0/B-bar /sup 0/ mixing signal from the UPSILON(5S) is predicted to be comparable to that from the UPSILON(4S). Some predictions are also discussed when we allow the mixing parameters to be in ranges beyond the standard model.
