Tracer atoms have been used to develop a quantitative method for the determination of the emulsifier content of latex films. A set of styre-acrylate latexes with different polymer rigidities have been prepared, containing sodium dodecyl sulfate with labeled sulfur. Investigation of the film formation from latexes by drying in air and by electrodeposition on a copper anode has shown that at a given emulsifier concentration in the latex, its contents in the film differ noticeably, depending on the method of preparation, and in the case of electrodeposition on the polymer properties. The structure of the electrophoretic film can be assessed from its emulsifier content.
