Better sieve tray. Add packing

Journal Article · · Hydrocarbon Process.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6834960
Some conclusions from the authors' investigation are as follows: Packing on sieve trays significantly improves mass transfer by increasing interfacial area. Packing increases the average degree of separation of sieve tray tower more than 20%. Stacked stainless steel packing of 11.5 cm height gave the highest purity. Optimum height may be about 10 cm for our tower. A pressure drop increase of about 30% results in the case of using packing. Using packing gives an increase of 21% in the overall tower efficiency and 22.5% in the Murphree efficiency of the vapor phase.
