Alaskan gas plant exceeds design throughput, production

Journal Article · · Oil Gas J.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6834790
The author describes Prudhoe Bay's central gas facility. Construction and start-up of the world's largest NGL-producing, gas-processing plant was achieved months ahead of schedule and at 75% of the originally estimated cost. The accelerated start-up schedule provided sufficient time to resolve unforeseen problems and still exceed budgeted production rates for 1987. As operators become more familiar with details of the process and controls are optimized, turbine/compressor availability will approach 99%. With optimization, there is potential for NGL rates to reach 60,000 b/d before decreasing crude rates are anticipated to limit NGL blending in late 1989.
