Study of bipolar batteries
Technical Report
·
OSTI ID:6833763
Battelle determined the status of development of bipolar batteries having an aqueous electrolyte. Included in the study were lead-acid, nickel-cadmium, nickel-zinc, nickel-iron, and nickel-hydrogen batteries. A review of the technical and patent literature is presented along with a bibliography covering the past 15 years. Literature data are supplemented by a survey of organizations. The principal interest has been in bipolar lead-acid batteries and more recently in bipolar nickel-hydrogen batteries for space applications. There have been only limited efforts to develop bipolar batteries for electric vehicle applications. Recommendations are made for additional studies.
