Relative behavior of graphite/epoxy and aluminum in a lightning environment

Conference · · Sci. Adv. Mater. Process Eng. Proc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6833080
The macroscopic electrical response of aluminum and Graphite/Epoxy (Gr/Ep) composite panels subject to a lightning environment was investigated to determine if metal and Gr/Ep would have different probabilities of lightning strike attachment. Results show that despite differences in electrical properties, metal and Gr/Ep do not exhibit any significant differences in lightning attach point characteristics.
