Analysis methods for optimizing the effectiveness of physical-security systems

Thesis/Dissertation ·
OSTI ID:6832354
The author presents an analysis method for optimizing the mission effectiveness of complex Physical-Security Systems. The system-design method makes use of imbedded Markovian stochastic networks that depict the topography of the site being protected and the site barriers, detection sensors, alarm systems, guard and response forces for each and all possible intrusion scenarios by hostile invaders. The computerized-analysis method is used primarily for performing the site Vulnerability Analysis, providing statistical and other design data during the system-design phase of a security system. The output data is also useful in assessing the validity of the Threat Analysis and the Risk Analysis. Although the method is used most effectively during the design process for a planned security system, it is also used effectively to evaluate the effectiveness of a security system already installed at an existing site, pointing out the weak-links in the system and the most cost-effective courses of corrective actions. The thesis consists of 7 chapters discussing the analysis methods.
