Book ·
OSTI ID:6830663
This standard practice covers the application of Reference Photographs for Magnetic Particle Indications on Ferrous Castings, ASTM E-125 to the inspection and acceptance of steel castings for valves, fittings, flanges, and other pressure piping components made to applicable ASTM specifications. The use of this standard practice is contemplated to apply primarily for the purpose of safety code requirements for general oil refinery use under conditions of pressure and temperature stipulated in Section 3, Refinery Piping Systems of ANSI B-31.3, Code for Pressure Piping. All castings shall be examined on all accessible as cast surfaces by magnetic particle procedures. The ASTM Standard E-109, Method for Dry Powder Magnetic Particle Inspection, shall be the criterion used for acceptance. Machined areas are not required to be re-examined.
