We report on observations of the onset of dissipation in superfluid /sup 3/He flowing through a single cylindrical channel of diameter d = 0.7 ..mu..m and length L = 6.0 ..mu..m. We propose a model in which thermally activated phase slips in the order parameter can account for the observed onset of dissipation.
