Solitary waves in a warm plasma with negative ions and drifting effect of electrons

Propagation of ion-acoustic solitary waves in a warm plasma with negative ions under the drifting effect of electrons is considered. Compressive and rarefactive solitons are shown to exist depending on the drift velocity [ital v][sup [prime]][sub [ital e]] of electrons for different values of [ital Q][prime] ([ital m][sub [ital j]]/[ital m][sub [ital i]]---negative to positive ion mass ratio) [ge]1 or [le]1. The amplitude of the compressive soliton for [ital Q][prime][ge]1 and rarefactive soliton for [ital Q][prime][le]1 but small, is found to be greatest near [ital v][sup [prime]][sub [ital e]] = 0 when [ital r] (=[ital n][sub [ital j]0]/[ital n][sub [ital i]0], negative to positive ion number density ratio) [le]0.5, showing thereby the characteristic change in solitons for the inclusion of [ital v][sup [prime]][sub [ital e]].
